Professional Anglers vs Olympic Athletes

kentucky-200.jpgAs the 2008 Olympics play out I wonder are Professional Anglers any different  then those olympic athletes?

I have watched the games and I stand in awe of their talent and spirit ,but I too am an athlete in spirit, mind and heart.I know what it is like to give up what most people call an ordinary life. We as athlete’s choose to Practice our sport everyday striving for perfection. As any athlete, a Professional Angler is no exception to the game. It first takes heart, you have to Love what you do. It takes drive, you are your own boss, day in and day out, fish, no fish, wind, rain, cold, heat it doesn’t matter. You keep giving it everything you have. Your Mind has to stay sharp, you can’t let your failures over come your success ( that is the hardest). Than there is your Spirit, that part of you that knows that you are doing what you were called to do in this life. As these champions struggle for their gold ,we as professional anglers struggle for our gold. To fish that one tournament that sets us apart from other anglers to be called a Champion. As I watch the games I hear the announcers say,” There is no room for error. These athletes are the best of the best”. I have heard that in my head every tournament I have ever fished. We are the same. We give everything we have everyday to reach our goal. When we reach one goal,we set another,  and start reaching for that. I hope that they all get their gold medals.Myself I will keep striving for my gold, that big trophy with Bassmaster Classic World Champion on it :)  ……….Always Fishin
