Tru Tungsten Swim Bait

I caught this nice bass during my practice for the season opening FLW Stren tournament on Lake Falcon in Zapata, (in deep south) Texas. I had been on a nice school of fish when I decided to put the old faithful flippin’ stick down and try to see what other baits I could coax the bass into biting
I decided to use the Tru- Tungsten Gold Tilapia  swimbait, due to the bluegill model’s high catch rate on my guide trips at Lake Fork. I  paralleled the road bed’s tree line in 8-14ft. On the first ten casts I had several followers, so I  backed  off and cast a little further to give the fish time to commit to the bait before they were so close to the boat. On the next cast and about half way to the boat my 8ft  Powertackle  swimbait special rod loaded up, and the fight was on. The fish was trying to jump out of the water but she was so fat she couldn’t manage to get out anything over her head out. At that point I knew she was a good one, but I had no idea until I netted her on how big she really was. After  snapping a few pictures she was quickly released to spawn and make more huge bass for the future anglers to enjoy

Final day on Lake Falcon Stren Texas Division. I weighed in 5 at 17.08lbs. I just didn’t get the big bites today. Lake Falcon was a different game than last year. I still finished up 32nd , that is a great start for me in the point field. That is what it is all about in this world of tournament fishing.  I made a check and that is always good, but the main goal is to earn the points  to qualify for the championship this year for the third time. Later…….always fishin

Ranger Boat Update

Author: stren1  //  Category: Journal

soaked.jpgI don’t write often but this story is one to share. This morning Cody and I set out to fish on Lake Falcon. I thought the clouds would eventually give way to that good old south Texas sun. The run Cody decided to make was a good ways. When we arrived the wind picked up some at first and than more and more. Cody packed up the rods and told me to hang on so off we went the same way we had come. The wind gust had to be 40-50 mph. The waves at least 8ft. Cody has always had experience with rough water and I have never felt fear but all of a sudden the water started to spin and the next thing I saw was the wave.We hit it dead on, spearing it. Water filled the boat as we came down. I wanted to write this to let everyone know that it is true Ranger Boats Do Not Sink. Cody not rattled at all said sure hope that wind lets up some later and we will get back out there. I looked at him and thought Crazy Fisherman!!! I am on land for the day. Heather

1st Bite 2009

falcon-2.jpgI arrived in Zapata,Texas checked in to my room and headed for the ramp. Pulling up to the ramp I can say that my heart sunk considering the reports of higher water level since I was here last year and they were  true. Falcon is at pool this year. Last year it was low.  I did what I do best and started from scratch. I put my Ranger in and let my Lowrance’s do the the rest. I casted and landed my first fish of 2009. I will report after this on what and where but for now the secret is I landed a lot more. I still have work ahead of me but I at least have a start……..always fishin
