I have to say I am in no way sorry that the Central Division on Detroit River is over. Lake Erie is just not a fishery I have ever had much success at. I had my hopes that my second visit would turn out much different but as the old saying goes “It was what it was”. I can say that I prepped for it but when the wind shifted on my spots that I had pre fished it was a game I had not played before. I am not familiar with a fishery that you have to watch the sea height on. We did catch a lot of small mouths and I did enjoy our time there. As it goes, I am now thinking and already preparing for the next tournament. As always ……always fishing

Erie was Erie
I have to say I am in no way sorry that the Central Division on Detroit River is over. Lake Erie is just not a fishery I have ever had much success at. I had my hopes that my second visit would turn out much different but as the old saying goes "It was what it was". I can say that I prepped ...
I was getting my stuff together for the FLW Central Division tournament on Detroit River I was thinking back to the first year I went fishing as a full-time job. I fished Lake Erie back four years ago. This is where I learned the meaning of rough water. It nearly killed me but I learned.Of all the lakes I fish I have more respect for Erie than any other body of water. Lake Erie is a Great Lake and it proved Great in many aspects. I am preparing myself and my equipment with that in mind. I have added three extra bilge pumps to reduce the intake of water in my boat for the swells that I will surely encounter. I changed props to a 5 blade to get more bow lift in the rough water. I changed my Minkota trolling motor to long shaft and my fishing gear: line and rods to assist in my finesse fishing. The prep time for this tournament has been more than any other for me but I have tried to think of all that could go wrong before I get there. Yes I am armed with life jackets as always but also plenty of flairs. Anglers in Texas can pick the roughest lake in the state and times that by 50 and that is what Erie is like on a good day. We drove for 20 hours . I will rig today and hit the Great Lake in the A.M. I will keep you posted as I can, the pictures may be less since I am leaving Heather on the bank, it is way to rough to have to worry about keeping her safe too. I would like to thank Tim and Judy at Power Tackle Rods for once again taking care of me with my vast replacement order. They are not only great sponsors, they are just truly great people. as always……….Always Fishin
